Regular well-child examinations by your child’s doctor are essential to keep your child healthy and up-to-date with immunizations against many dangerous childhood diseases. A checkup also gives your child’s doctor an opportunity to talk to you about developmental and safety issues and gives you an opportunity to ask any questions you might have about your child’s overall health.
At a typical well-child visit during the first year, your child will be weighed, length measured and head circumference checked. We are determining if your child is progressing along a normal pattern of growth.
Your child’s doctor will also check developmental progress. He or she will ask a number of questions to see if your child’s everyday behavior is age appropriate. At some visits you may be asked to complete a developmental questionnaire.
Well baby visits are recommended at the following ages:
1-2 days after discharge from hospital after birth
2 weeks of age
1 month of age (in some cases)
2 months
3 months
4 months
6 months
